MyGovID to replace AUSkey from late March 2020
If you have been looking after your own BAS lodgments, and use ATO Business portal logging in with AUSKey, you will need to make some changes. AUSKey is being replaced by MyGovID at the end of March 2020.
How exactly is MyGovID replacing AUSkey?
MyGovID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM), provide a quick, easy and secure way for you to prove who you are when you access selected government online services.
- myGovID is a secure proof of identity app. Set it up once and use it to prove who you are when accessing government online services – just like the 100 point ID check, but on your phone. Use your myGovID for both personal and business matters.
- RAM is an authorisation service that allows you to link your myGovID to an Australian business number (ABN) and manage who can act on behalf of your business online.
Together, myGovID and RAM will replace AUSkey in March 2020.
To support the transition from AUSkey to the new digital identity solution, RAM is now connected to Access Manager. This means when you authorise a person to act for a business using RAM, you can set their permissions for ATO online services in Access Manager at the same time.
Eligible businesses have already opted to switch to myGovID and RAM to access the Business Portal.
We will continue to make more enhancements to myGovID and RAM, including:
- a streamlined way to connect large numbers of Access Manager permissions to RAM
- expanding the myGovID app to Android devices.
What do you need to do first to action change to myGovID?
- Check your Australian business number (ABN) details are up-to-date in the Australian Business Register (ABR). This ensures the right people can act on behalf of your business.
- If you have an Administrator AUSkey, check if other nominated AUSkey users are still correct.
What do you need to setup myGovID?
-a smart device with iOS10 or later on Apple or Andriod 7.0 and later
– email address that belongs only to you (not a shared one)
– to be 13 years or older
Steps to setup myGovID

Download the myGovID app

Enter your details
Open the myGovID app and follow the prompts. You will need to enter your full name, date of birth and email address.

Add your identity documents
Standard
The identity strength you require may differ depending on the government online service you want to access using your myGovID.
A Standard identity strength allows you to access all participating government online services, if you have added two Australian identity documents such as your:
- driver’s licence or learner’s permit
- passport
- birth certificate
- Medicare card.
A Basic identity strength allows you to access some participating government online services if you have added only one or no identity documents. Not all government online services accept this identity strength.
In future, you’ll be able to use other identity documents and face-matching technology.
Link your myGovID to a business
To use myGovID with participating government online services, you need to link your myGovID to a business in Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM).
If you’re the principal authority of the business, you’ll need to link your myGovID to your Australian business number (ABN) in RAM first. You can then set up and import authorisations for employees and others who will use RAM to accept the authorisation request.
